I know, resilience is hard!
Whatever circumstances have pulled on your resilience, it’s much like our body pulling on whatever nutrients and healing sources available and sending it to whatever part of your body is suffering. Whether it’s a scratch, broken bone or serious dis-ease, our bodies are the most miraculously resilient, living thing on earth.
And so are our souls.
Some call it bouncing back, some call it putting your big girl panties on. Regardless, no one escapes finding themselves in that position in one way or another.
Certainly, I have many times. Children are resilient is a phrase we’ve all heard, and I truly believe we begin very early on to instinctively embrace resilience, probably because life can’t be sustained without it.
We all have stories about how we had to find our resilience whether we wanted to or not, but I think it’s safe to say I don’t believe we give it much thought or completely understand it.
Has there been a moment you had to allow resilience to pick you up off the ground?
For me, it wasn’t until the moment that resilience touched and helped me take my next breath. It was the moment, and moments that followed to this day, that I was desperate to find a way to take the next breath in a world without my daughter.
I don’t make this about that, it was simply the time that resilience was rushing to save my life, teaching me that resilience is a life force that causes the weak and hopeless to survive and thrive.
One of the things God used to imprint this in my being is a sunflower. It was my daughter’s favorite flower. I think everyone loves them, but I didn’t know how resilient they were. Almost nothing can keep them from living to the fullest, and they instinctively lean toward and track the sun, somehow knowing that’s where life is found and emanates.
I’ve seen sunflower fields with 12’’ spans, 8ft. tall yellow beauties. There’s something about a sunflower that puts a smile on my face and causes me to celebrate. Not jumping up and down, party celebration. I’m talking about the miracle of resilience, because I’ve also seen them after a storm, leaning toward the sun at first glint, stronger than ever. It’s even said they possess healing powers.
The picture here is one from my Coaching-in-a-Moment card deck that I hope causes you to think of ways to celebrate your own resilience, because I don’t have to know your story to know you’ve had to find your inner sunflower of resilience.
What if every day you could hold one of these cards that would remind you of ways to be resilient and celebrate life?
You can get yours here, and wouldn’t they make a great gift for a friend or family member?
