I want to share with you my favorite quote.
“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about dancing in the rain.”
I first heard it from my daughter when she adopted it as her mantra. She was a dancer since she was three. I was brought to tears one day when I came across the quote, beautifully framed, displayed on a large iron easel at Hobby Lobby not long after we lost her. I wasn’t walking out without it.
It is now prominently displayed in my living room, as well as a picture of her dancing in the rain. Her roommate had snapped it in a magical moment of, well, dancing, and I’m so grateful she did. Despite its lack of quality, I hold it so precious and had it printed on canvas, and I share it with you here.
Your peace, dreams, wholeness, are all about Dancing With Life no matter what! The dance can be difficult, confusing and exhausting, which is why I believe the quote so exhilarated her. She knew the pain and difficulty of bloody feet from hours of dancing on pointe, but dancing was in her soul and therefore, she also experienced the accomplishment of being 2nd runner up, Miss Dance Oklahoma, as well as receiving a dance scholarship.
She also chose to find a way to dance with life again after her daddy passed; and then once again when she broke her foot in a stupid skateboard accident shortly after beginning her dance major. Obviously one of the worst things that could have happened to a dancer to derail her.
The storm was indeed intense but all attention focused on recovery, she continued to dance in the rain and right into the sunshine.
I wonder if you can think of ways you encountered a storm, but danced right through it, difficult as it might have been? Or maybe not so much. Regardless, dancing with life is hard and hurtful and messy, but it is in the dance where your dreams are birthed and your light shines.
So, because metaphors can sometimes come off as cliché, especially if difficulty is raining on you, I want to bring some reality to Dancing With Life.
It’s really about having faith in your intuition, knowing and following that gut feeling. It’s having the courage to step into your truth and desires, no matter what.
It’s taking the risk to lose, to speak, to take an action because your heart knows it will grow and create space for you.
It’s standing in the face of your constant rival; insecurity and not-enoughness, to stand in your core values, your heart.
It’s paying attention to your dreams, holding them sacred high above the fray.
It is knowing when something is feeding your passion and dancing with it no matter what.
It’s taking the hand of life when it asks, May I have this dance?
Dancing, no matter what,
Ruthie
Your post touches me deeply. I think writing has been my way to dance in the rain even when life throws me a huge curveball.

I love your daughter, Ruthie, especially her mantra and how she has always walked her talk and continued with her dedication to dance when many of us would limp away thinking it is not meant to be.
My good wishes to both of you.
